Blurb

“So, where am I?” I asked.
But before I could get an answer, I stumbled over my
own feet — he caught me in his arms. My hands were
splayed on his chest. I removed my left one immediately,
but the right one stayed where it was. Over his heart.
There was a moment’s silence, then understanding
came pouring into me. I looked into his eyes…he stared
sadly back. I felt nothing under my hand.
    There was no heartbeat.

Freya’s unlike any other human in her boring town.
She’s unlike any other human in her world: The Realm of
the Living. She is intuitively connected to her soul, and from
this connection an amazing ability emerges.
Freya can open portals. They allow her to travel into other
realms — entire worlds that exist alongside and even intertwine
with the Earth we live on now.
As Freya’s first adventure unfolds before her, she never
anticipates the encounters that will cross her path, or that they’d
alter her forever.
This debut novel delivers a thrilling and compelling story about discovery, adventure and love.
A Bit About...

The Portal Opener is told primarily by Freya: an eighteen year old, high school student, who is looking for something more. Knowing that there is something more to be had, Freya is persistent in her search for answers. She frequently dreams about other worlds—realms—and she intuitively knows these wonderlands really exist. Portals are Freya’s solution, and that is where the story begins, when Freya discovers how to open them.
The Portal Opener takes off immediately and continues its quick pace as Freya experiments with her new ability. Her take on life combines humour and intelligence, as she encounters life’s lessons of learning to accept your truth, and learning to live with the consequences of your choices.
The Portal Opener is a pleasure to read, and easy to follow. It will have you hooked from cover to cover.

The front cover is based on an image I came across of a couple walking together, into the distance.

Janice Law, the artist, took this concept and created something simple, yet intriguing with her beautiful artwork. It conveys all the elements that I wanted to express, with a sense of peace and ease.

The back cover is split into two parts, conveying two of the destinations that Freya goes to.

The trees, with the golden archway, are from the Cottage at Goldengate.

The building is Wentworth Hall, where the Council of Elroy reside.
